Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

A whale washed ashore dead today on Osbourne Avenue Beach in Bay Head thought to be either a Fin or Minke Whale. It had been dead for some time. Biologists were not able to diagnose the cause of death due to severe decomposition.

Jenk's Inlet Point Pleasant Beach Winter Surfing

Another winter storm graced its presence on the Jersey Shore with a few inches of snow and kicked up the surf. This photo was taken at Jenkinson’s “Jenk’s” Inlet on the north end of Point Pleasant Beach of a surfer taken advantage of a nice winter swell!

The Crab's Claw Inn Restaurant & Bar recommended by The Bay Head House

The Crab’s Claw is a fantastic Restaurant located on Route 35 North in Lavallette. The Hammer Family has run the restarant for decades and have done a tremendous job making this a great spot for both locals and tourists alike. Over the past 10 years, many of the barrier islands restaurants and bars have been demolished and replaced with condos. With new renovations to the Crab’s Claw, this Lavallette iconic building is here to stay. Great stop for a beer, cocktail and app’s as well as a full sit down dinner. Live music some nights.

Directions from The Bay Head House (15 minute drive): Bridge Ave heading East to 2nd light—> RIGHT on Main Ave (Rt 35 South) for 6.9 miles –> LEFT on Reese Ave —-> LEFT on Grand Central Ave (Rt 35 North) —> Restaurant will be on RIGHT # 601.

The Bay Head House Top Restaurant Picks at the Jersey Shore! Dorcas of Bay Head

The Bay Head House recommends Dorcas' of Bay Head

The Bay Head House recommends Dorcas' of Bay Head

An established Bay Head staple, Dorcas of Bay Head was founded in 1965 by Dorcas Cotsworth and made into the sidewalk/cafe restaurant that it continues to be today. From 1925 until 1965 it was a rooming house called The Clover Cottage. Since its inception, it has been considered a charming place to dine.

Great indoor and open air restaurant for breakfast and lunch and also don’t miss the ice cream parlor.  A Bay Head must! Check out Dorcas’ selection by clicking here.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE BAY HEAD HOUSE: Walk east to the corner of Bridge Ave & Lake Ave (#58 Bridge Ave)

Isohama serves some of the best sushi on the Jersey Shore. Sushi chef and owner, Jun, cares deeply about providing only the freshest fish whether it is an exotic sashimi grade shipped in same day from Japan or a locally caught fluke or sea bass caught that day from the boats at the local cooperative fish market. I recommend the Rippetoe Roll, crispy spicy tuna roll, miso soup, green salad, soy beans and red bean ice cream for dessert. They also have the best green tea! View menu.

Directions from The Bay Head House: Drive west on Bridge Ave from house to light–> turn RIGHT at Light on BAY AVE–> Take Bay Ave for about 2 miles until road ends —> Turn RIGHT on ARNOLD AVE go thru 1 traffic light and restaurant is on RIGHT (across from Bank of America). You can park behind bank if no parking. Check out map and reviews.

Very cool and cozy seafood restaurant along the Mansquan River in Point Pleasant Beach. Bring beer and wine to this very casual and laid back environment with great food. There is a full sit-down menu indoors or take in the super salty air on the outdoor patio watching the fishing boats go in and out of the inlet with “today’s catch”. One of the local and tourist’s favorites! Excellent view for sunset!

Direction From The Bay Head House head east on Bridge Ave –> LEFT on Main (2nd light)—> bear RIGHT on Ocean Ave (after 7-11) —> take Ocean Ave for 1 mile to end crossing over Broadway—-> Ocean turns into Inlet Drive—-> Inlet horseshoe’s around and Red’s will be on your RIGHT.  Map of Directions
